Teriyaki Steak Sauce
Teriyaki Sauce
soy sauce | 1/2 cup | |
mirin (Japanese sweet rice wine) | 1/2 cup
sake | 1/4 cup | |
brown sugar | 1/4 cup | |
garlic, minced | 2 cloves
fresh ginger, grated | 1 tablespoon
cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp. water (optional, for thickening) | 1 tablespoon |
Directions
In a saucepan, combine the soy sauce, mirin, sake, and brown sugar.
Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the pan.
Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 10 minutes. This allows the flavors to meld together.
If you prefer a thicker sauce (more glaze-like), stir in the cornstarch-water mixture. Increase the heat to medium and stir continuously until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency. This should take around 2 minutes.
Allow the sauce to cool down a bit. It can be used as a marinade for your steak before grilling, or you can brush it on the steak while it’s cooking. You could also serve it as a sauce on the side.
